High memory usage

Post by denvee »

I am using gPhotoShow as a digital frame. I point it to my somewhat large photo folder in a NAS. I use the scrapbook feature so i can see multiple photos at a time. I notice that the software uses a massive amount of my system RAM. is there a way to limit the RAM usage?

Hello,
20 GB is a lot. Memory usage depends on:
- the number of images in the scanned directories (10,000 files can take up 1 MB just for the filenames)
- the images currently being displayed plus the next one already loaded

Normal memory usage ranges from 200 MB to 500 MB.
Which version of gPhotoShow Pro are you using? Is it an OpenGL version?

I Just updated to the latest

and according to the cache:
Cache found
Folder scan completed, 2702 files found
Monitor #0: 2456 files displayed, 246 still to display

anything else i can check as to why it uses a ton of RAM?

With version 11, that amount of memory usage for so few files isn't normal.
Does the memory usage increase while the program is running, or does it stay stable?
The main thing I need is the log file. On the "Errors and logging" page, enable extended logging, let the program run for a while, and then send me the log via PM or by email to the address I'll send you in a PM.
The gPhotoShow configuration saved in a .gss file might also be useful.

after a reboot i check and memory usage starts at around 200mb like you mentioned and it creeps up the longer it runs.
I just enabled extended logs and rebooted.
I will pm you the files requested in a bit

The problem was caused by two memory leaks: one in the filter applied to scrapbook background images, and another in the handling of side-by-side vertical images.
It's now fixed in gPhotoShow Pro 11.0.6.
