Unable to access files on desktop after windows 10 update

Post by Glamis »

My apologies for asking a windows 10 sharing question, but I'm desperate.

So, my desktop updated windows 10 the other day and now my other devices won't access the shared files on the desktop - where I keep my photos. The desktop is connected via ethernet, so is the micro PC I'm usig for gPhotohow.

I've checked the network sharing - advanced sharing - to make sure that network discovery is on and printer sharing is on and password proetected sharing is off.

I checked the folders I want to share and made sure they are shared for everyone.

I'm missing something.

Suggestions?

Hello,
I don't think you can find help here for a problem that concerns windows.
In any case I recommend you to share a folder outside the user profile because all files in the user profile have ntfs permissions that allow only the owner to see them.
Even if the share allows to everybody to see those files ntfs forbids the access. So either you configure folder access rights or share a folder outside the user profile.

Thanks for the lead - I'll do a little reading and try to understand the issue.

My micro pc has suffienct drive space for all my photos - I just moved them over.

Not the clean solution - I'll have to move new photos over - but it works.

Again, thanks, we use your program nightly while we sit and listen to music prior to dinner.

It is much appreciated.
