Switching off monitor terminate slideshow

I am planning to use gPhotoShow to run a slideshow on a Windows 11 mini PC. I'd like to have the slideshow running 24/7 on the PC, but be able to turn the monitor on/off manually whenever we are not in that part of the house.
I tested this with a slideshow created with the default settings, but when I switch the monitor back on the slideshow is no longer active, and the monitor is showing the windows desktop instead. So it looks like the process of switching off the monitor is also terminating the slideshow.
The PC has only one user account (with auto logon enabled) and I am running gPhotoShow as a slideshow, not a screensaver.
How can I get the slideshow to stay live while the monitor is off (or turn back on automatically when the monitor is switched back on)?
