Performance degradation after moving files across network

Post by paul1965 »

I frequently transfer files from my HTPC to my NAS, and afterwards notice that PhotoWall slows down quite a bit. Sometimes it is nearly stopped. I run a Gigabit LAN, but have 2 PC's running PhotoWall, 1 running the regular slideshow across 4 monitors, and now I also stream music from a server to the same 2 PC's running PhotoWall (that server also hosts all the image folders). Other than telling me to quit streaming the music, is there any way to stop PhotoWall from slowing down? I looked in the settings and didn't really see anything, but was wondering about a buffer, or some other way of building up the number of images before they start being displayed.

Hello,
gPhotoShow reads images using windows imaging functions, I think they have no special code to deal with network and use the usual file read functions of windows. I think file read speed depends only on the network load.

Okay, thanks. I'll do some more research.
